How Can AI Be a Firm’s Cybersecurity Firewall?

On his keynote speech at the recent Fujitsu Laboratories Advanced Technology Symposium, Weitzner criticized today’s security implementation’s ineffectiveness. Companies would compare against their peers instead of measuring their cybersecurity firewall success. He also noted how brands gloat about increasing their IT security funds. Recently JPMorgan Chase’s CEO Jamie Dimon announced that they were spending nearly $600 million annually and dedicated 3,000 employees for cybersecurity.

Collaboration with Other Brands

Weitzner is working with ten companies to discover the actual reasons behind data breaches. These organizations share information like the incidents they faced, which strategy failed for them, and the money drain. Instead of upgrading to new tools and technologies, businesses need to understand their priorities and investing tactics.

Rethinking Privacy

According to a Fujitsu survey, 82 percent of 900 business owners wanted to have ‘full control’ of their data. The fear of data mishandling was their reason for guarding privacy so closely. No current software enables people to discover how their data is being used. General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) is striving to fulfill that goal.

AI and Privacy

The Fujitsu study revealed that 52 percent of the participants do not trust AI decisions. On the other hand, 63 percent are ready to accept its judgment once they know how it drew those conclusions. Fujitsu Laboratories CEO Hirotaka Hara opines that companies do not explain to consumers how AI tools think. The vagueness in the process makes customers lose trust even more. The biased data that companies feed AI also raises concerns.

Industries must strive harder to bring back this trust because AI is a tool to create a legitimate cybersecurity firewall. Since we are used to being surrounded by technologies now, it is time to make our work environment conducive to AI.
