New Statistics Regarding Gender Diversity in ITSM Teams

It is important to have gender diversity not only in ITSM teams but across the organization. This allows equal representation and increases acceptance of women in important roles. In this article at the Service Desk Institute, Scarlett Bayes discusses new statistics regarding gender diversity in ITSM teams.

Statistics on ITSM Gender Diversity

SDI ran a survey to understand gender diversity in the IT industry. Following the statistics that show the current inclusion rate of women in the ITSM teams:

Representation: Participants responded that only 30% are women in their organization and ITSM teams. Some say that women represent less than 15% of their workforce. 13% reported that 46% to 60% are women and 6% said that more than 61% are women. While the study reveals that ITSM teams are male-dominated, gender diversity is directly linked to higher performance. Ideally, having 50% of female employees would be the ideal state of gender diversity in a company.

Biased Opinion: 2% of respondents have experienced gender bias at work. People should know about this percentage to prevent overlooking or contributing to it. Women do not report issues for fear of being ostracized or ignored.

Management Effort: 70% of participants said that their managers encourage gender diversity at work. While management gives preference to men more than women, this statistic is a giant leap ahead.

Main Challenges Faced by Women: 81% of respondents think that male dominance in the technology industry has not improved gender diversity. 56% think that the lack of female role models is the culprit. A Reuters research says that 3/4th of female employees think they have to sacrifice their career if they start a family. 44% think gender bias and 40% believe pay gap are the main challenges to gender diversity at work.

While 50% of the respondents believe that more women will join the IT industry in the future. 27% think that the sector will stress on gender diversity too.
