Does the PMI Talent Triangle Define Everything?

Project management is a job function that is not limited by any boundary or definition as such. It has infinite opportunities for an individual to learn and grow. Right from planning, collaboration, supervision, financial budgeting, manpower allocation, leadership tactics to issue resolution, it offers a wide variety of areas to try your hands on. The Triangle

The PMI Triangle has technical project management, leadership, and strategic business management as its three dimensions. As the name suggests, technical project management comprises all the technical aspects of the project right from project charter, lessons learned to project closure phase. Leadership talks about the management skills required at every phase to govern the project well. Strategic business management entails the approaches and variations specific to the industry and project that you work for. Now the question is that since it’s all clearly defined, do we really have something that lies beyond it? Yes, we do!

What Lies Beyond?

Mullaly states that there are certain skills that are not a part of the PMI Talent Triangle but are an essential part of project management. For instance, project management does not only comprise project manager role but business analysts, designers, engineers, supervisors, and so on. So, apart from what PMI Talent Triangle talks, you need these skills as well to manage projects. Likewise, the learning process in project management is not only limited to what the triangle says. There are numerous functions, approaches, and strategies that revolve around project management itself and should be learned about to manage projects well.
