Should CIOs Be Accountable for an Innovative Corporate Culture?

As per a Deloitte research, 94% of IT executives and 88% of employees believe corporate culture drives innovation. Studies found that the majority of the digital initiatives fail due to resistance from the workforce. CIOs play a big role in bridging the gap between technological advancement and corporate culture. In this article at SocialChorus, Charong Chow analyzes why CIOs should be accountable for an innovative corporate culture.

CIOs and Corporate Culture

Gartner VP analyst Kristin Moyer says that organizations expect CIOs and HR to collaborate and establish an innovative corporate culture. Introduction of new policies and technologies are going to affect the workforce the most. They have settled in with a certain way of working when you introduce new tools without any warning. They need to adapt faster and stay flexible to cope up with the industry volatility. So, it is your job as a CIO to empathize with their situation and improve corporate culture through incremental acceptance. Gartner VP analyst Leigh McMullen suggests that CIOs think company values as ‘employee experience program.’

Following are the ways CIOs can pave the path for an innovative corporate culture:

  1. Integrated Communication Platform: Employ a communication platform that you can integrate with other corporate applications and systems. This way no department work in silos. Employees can reach out to one another through emails, newsletters, mobile application, and in-house networking system.
  2. Engaged Workforce: Make them feel involved. Instead of ordering them work, explain how their work benefits the company’s overall growth. Listen to their ideas and concerns. When you give them a role to play, they become equal partners in the digital transformation journey.
  3. Engagement Measurement: The best way to understand if you are bringing positive changes to the corporate culture is by measuring your progress. Set up metrics and feedback channels to build stronger company values that support innovation.
