Handling Multiple Projects? 5 To-Dos to Stay on Track

You must have frequently come across snappy managers that are handling multiple projects. When these multiple projects also have dependencies with other departments, the process becomes more complex. In this article at Project Bliss, Leigh Espy talks about 5 to-dos that could help project managers stay on track of their projects.

Tracking Multiple Projects

Micromanaging is an impossible task when you handle multiple projects. It is best to empower senior team members to take calls sometimes. However, there are some to-dos to stay on track of tasks assigned to your projects:

  1. Stay Updated on Your Daily Action Items: Track where the resources are with their tasks to know and prevent project delay.
  2. Know What Is in the Pipeline: Cross-check the project schedule to know about the upcoming tasks. If you need to acquire resources and get infrastructure, you should start doing that now.
  3. Prioritize Dependencies: If your project is dependent on external help, touch base with the departments to avoid rushing at the eleventh hour. Understand how far ahead or behind they are with the task. Your client too would appreciate if you notify them early about the actual cause of project delay.
  4. Check Your Communication Channels: To keep the project on the track you need to communicate effectively. Always maintain and supervise these channels to prevent project scope creep.
  5. Be Prepared to Report in Short Notice: Sponsors or stakeholders might want to check up on the project status sometimes. Ensure you have the requisite data to create progress reports when they ask the status.
