3 Things You Can Do to Help Your Organization Stay Competitive

Hiring the best and brightest people into your organization is only the first step in staying competitive. The second and equally important step is to ensure these employees stay current with emerging business and technology news and information. Jinen Dedhia writes that there are three things IT leaders can do to ensure that the right people are up to date with the right information.

Manage the Knowledge

  1. Map the sources of right information for your business.
  2. Set up an internal curation tool for specifically your top talent.
  3. Set up means to distribute this news to all your employees.

For mapping the right information, seek out the thought leaders in your industry and set up alerts on them. Similarly follow bloggers and reporters who you recognize as having a keen insight for your business, as well as leveraging things like hash tags on social networks to find additionally useful info. About the second tip, Dedhia says:

Get your top talented team in a closed group for sharing interesting things they find on web with each other. Depending on your organizational structure, you can either form a single group or multiple groups. This sharing of articles will help you further curate the web for the best of all the material available there absolutely relevant to your business. Think of it as making something like Quibb for your enterprise. To set this up, you can use a simple collaborative Google Spreadsheet or other purpose built tools.

Once you have a general system in place for gathering knowledge, there are a few options available to you for actually distributing it. You can integrate a news feed into a company intranet, you can build an enterprise social network, or you can build a dedicated app for the news platform. Building an app just for news within the company may sound like quite the undertaking, but if it can keep so many employees current with cutting-edge news, it may be worth the effort.
