Is Management More Important than Leadership?

Today’s organizations treat management and leadership as two separate positions. Perhaps this is for a good reason. Bhavin Gandhi of The.Project.Management.Hut, says that many people define leaders as “those who do the right thing” and managers as “those who do things right.” However, it’s time to get rid of these definitions and ask ourselves how management and leadership can help each other.

The problem with many large companies today is they completely separate the two positions. Leaders no longer recognize management as part of their job anymore. Instead, they spend their time devising strategies for the managers to execute. The managers then spend all their time looking good for quarterly goals, and not enough time looking at the big picture. The results can be disastrous. To save your organization, Gandhi suggests bringing back the bond between leadership and management. If leaders look at themselves as a type of manager, focusing on issues inside the organization instead of just impressing outsiders, the result is an efficient and successful organization.
