Delivering Late: When something bad happens, we delay spilling the news. Some even completely disregard telling their teams about it. Tell you what, bad news should never be delayed or brushed under the carpet. It can lead to more backlashes from the people that trusted you.
Staying Away from People: Sometimes CIOs understand how the bad news would affect the teams and feel the same anxiety within them. They tend to stay away from the very people they need to discuss it with. If you yourself feel helpless about their situation, you cannot give them the required support. Studies say avoiding it because you feel bad can lead to unwanted outcomes.
What You Should Do Actually:
Instead of taking no action when you receive the bad news, do the following:
Create a Connection: It is important that CIOs reach out to people by showing their connection to the bad news. Let out your own emotions so that they understand that you are with them and understand their current state.

Let Them Speak Out: Since it is so sudden, they are bound to have a lot of questions and might even voice resentments. Let them speak their mind. Listen to them carefully and take steps objectively. If you cannot do anything right now, be sincere and tell them that instead of giving false hopes. Simultaneously, encourage them to move forward and assure your support.
