According to a recent survey of the Project Management Institute (PMI), among all the projects commenced in 2017, almost 41 percent were highly complex, clearly defining the real nature of project management. Here are some best project management practices every project manager must try:

  1. Define Requirements: Nothing can change the level of complexity in project management. But if the requirements are well-defined, it will be easier for the team to bring and maintain desired consistency in the project process.
  2. Formalize Roles: Identify and formalize roles of each member involved in the project. Also, allow each of them to independently handle their responsibilities and utilize their skills right.
  3. Build a Project Plan: To meet the set goals of the projects, map out a clear plan, ensure the scope is established, objectives are defined, and the potential risks are recognized in advance.
  4. Constant Communication: Ineffective communication could be the biggest reason for project failure. Use the most effective channel of communication to foster consistency.
  5. Determine Corrective Action: Even the most impeccable plans may go wrong, or one thing or the other may go unplanned. Although you cannot do much to avoid such unwanted surprises, it is best to remain future-ready by keeping backup plans handy.
  6. Implement the Right Tools: Advanced project management tools have become the need of the hour. At present, when projects are becoming more complex and communication is getting scattered, it is best to invest in the right tools and software.
  7. Frequent Check-Ins: Regular check-in is crucial to keep the team engaged or instill a sense of accountability among them. Also, let the team know that there is someone willing to support them.
  8. Consolidate Information: Once a project is finished, gather all its related information at one place to be used later as a central knowledge hub. Feel free to add project schedules, budget, software or tools used, and templates too.
  9. Learn from Setbacks: Hold a project wrap-up meeting to take the elephant out of the cage and clearly discuss the lessons learned, mistakes encountered, or ways to improve future projects. Seek feedback of each individual in the team to improve future endeavors.
