Exchange Information to Promote Mutual Understanding

Communication is key to any relationship, be it personal or professional. To share thoughts, perspectives, address issues, or concerns, communication is the foundation of all.

In this article at PM times, George Pitagorsky explains that mutual understanding is essential to develop seamless communication among peers and so is the art of listening.

Listen First!

To put across your words, you need to listen to the other person first. However, it is mandatory to understand that listening is far from hearing. The author believes that most of the people do not listen with the intention to understand but to respond. This could lead to misinterpretation or unwanted communication gap sometimes.

Therefore, understand and reflect what you have gathered from listening to the speaker. Mutual understanding is a reflection of seamless communication that assures no further dialogue, debate and action will be required.

Put into Action

Communication means the transmission of information gathered on a subject with a specific goal to develop a clear understanding of the subject. Content plays an enormous role in the communication process to influence and make the speaker understand the need to leave a lasting impact on the listener. The information travels from one receiver to the other in the communication chain that becomes meaningless if anyone in the process lack the listening skill or the ability to communicate.

To transmit and maintain effective communication, deliver the need of the audience first and then anticipate what they have understood. Stronghold on language and pronunciation is equally pivotal. Also, the speaker must ensure that the message has been well received and understood by the person he or she is communicating with.
