College Student Death Raises Questions About Uber and Lyft’s Ridesharing Safety

The death of a University of South Carolina student makes people doubt ridesharing safety of Uber and Lyft. CBS News discloses in this video that Uber is starting a social media campaign. That would be published in college newspapers. Ridesharing safety instructions like checking the driver’s photo and validating the vehicle description will be included. Other recommendations are sitting in the backseat and sharing ride details with friends.

LegalRideshare attorney Bryant Greening appreciates that the ridesharing companies are taking actions. He points out that these steps should have been taken earlier and safety is also the responsibility of the passengers. A South Carolina law is mandating ridesharing companies to fix illuminated logo signage on vehicles for easy identification. Petitioners are also asking to establish a QR code system for both passengers and drivers.
