In this Wall Street Journal video, Spencer Macnaughton busts five rumors about 5G, the wireless technology that can connect everything. However, there are some rumors that are floating around too. For a starter, it is not just to make your smartphone stream data faster. 5G networks are going to be 100 times faster than 4G. Be it your smartphone, self-driving car, or virtual environment, you can enjoy seamless connectivity with it. Secondly, the differentiating factor is not about the amount of data it can send but the low latency it offers. Thirdly, the technology is not restricted to the telecom industry only. 5G is going to make its presence felt in multiple industries. Though the fourth rumor about the new technology replacing 4G is true, lack of supporting infrastructure can delay the process. To bust the fifth rumor, 5G is not going to roll out all over the world. Major U.S. cellphone carriers like Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T have deployed coverage in large cities only. It will take years before rural areas get to enjoy the new technology.
