CIOs: Make that Extra effort to Gear up for DX

CIOs play a major role in many organizations at present. Apart from finding most disruptive ways to bring innovation, the CIOs need to align to digital transformation (DX) and performance goals.

He also mentions the recent survey of 1,217 CIOs by Deloitte research team across 48 countries to discover how technology leaders help their organizations.

Shift in Priority

Some organizations bank on their CIOs as the tech leaders who are responsible for a major shift in business priorities. About 57 percent of CIOs choose customers as their priority. The CIOs are expected to contribute to driving business value in a much tangible way. However, often CIOs are relegated to manage technical matters of the organizations as part of their role.

Surprisingly, some of the IT organizations have given a significant role to their CIOs to bridge the digital skills gap, specifically in data, applications, and security. Here are some IT capabilities that CIOs must possess to lead their role in the organization:

  1. Strategic Alignment: It is the capability to align IT activities to business strategy and performance goals. This may include their capability to proactively resolve business challenges.
  2. Execution: As CIOs are expected to execute technology projects, they might gain credibility within the organization with a strong track record of delivering a reliable and consistent digital environment.
  3. Vision & Strategy: Developing a vision and strategy is pivotal for CIOs to set clear goals for delivering business value.
  4. Fostering Disruption: Technology and CIOs are the souls of business innovations and disruptions. Therefore, it is essential for the CIOs to challenge themselves to disrupt the present work procedure and come up with innovative methods to succeed.
