How Technology Is Changing the World as We See It

Technology is playing is a big role in today’s world. Cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and internet of things, etc. are becoming commonplace scenarios for people in general. In this article at ZDNet, Steve Ranger shares the views of Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella regarding technology and its impact on the world.

How Technology Changed Everything Around Us

Nadella is amazed by the penetrative power that technology has gathered in public domains. He notes that every object and individual are influenced by technology. Businesses are centering their strategy around it.

Future of AI

Nadella thinks AI would be the base for the growth of all applications and services in the future. Microsoft is aiming to connect all its existing products to aid in problem-solving. Also, it is possible to extend services like computer vision, natural language processing, and speech processing through AI. Microsoft’s Project Brainware is set out to help customers enable deep learning by using field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). The software giant has also bought AI startup Semantic Machines to enhance its NLP ventures.

Bursting the Cloud Bubble

The Azure cloud business experienced a 93 percent growth recently as Microsoft continues to expand its worldwide cloud services. However, Nadella thinks that will not be enough. The microcontrollers present in your refrigerators, toasters, etc. must be connected for you to control them. Microsoft’s Azure Sphere is aiming to manage these billions of microcontrollers through cloud.

Ethics Around the AI Technology

Nadella stresses that developers must build AI by making some ethical choices. Since the choices reside in the power of human even now, AI initiatives must follow some common principles for a safe and secure future. AI learns languages from humans which might be full of preconceived notions and prejudices. There should be some tools that could filter out these biases to avoid escalations in the future.
