When you put the team goals ahead of your personal ambition, you become the most valuable possible employee. Margaret Steen counts five ways to be a good team player in an article for Monster. The first way is to meet your deadlines—go figure. Team players are also candid, able to express concerns and constructive criticism; an ability to just do assigned work and not ask questions is not valued the way it once was. And since technology has enabled globally distributed teams, team members must be able to adapt to changes in communication and trust each other to get work done.
