With Agile and DevOps, Why ITIL?

While agile and DevOps have been getting the hot buzz lately, ITIL seems to have lost its vitality, but is that actually the truth? In fact, ITIL is still very much relevant and exudes heavy benefits. In a post at his blog, Professor P. Ross S. Wise elaborates on how to capitalize on this still relevant system.

ITIL provides the foundation for a standardized manner in which to communicate to anyone working in service management. This vocabulary list helps give credibility to the consultant using them. Imagine if, while talking with a customer, a consultant cluelessly spoke at length about the wrong term. This could be disastrous and immediately get the company short-listed. Vocabulary lists are not just for elementary school students anymore!

Specifically defined terms help to prevent any misunderstandings. When there are fewer misunderstandings, there is an increase in IT performance, which is an increase to the business performance. Agile, DevOps, and integrated IT processes collectively are what are going to lead to great success. No one system can truly stand alone; they need support from the others.

Although a person’s certification is not the single measure of capability, it does carry a lot of weight, particularly in the IT industry. The proper credentials can help validate knowledge and experience, and more importantly help get a foot in the door to discuss qualifications. It is not enough for a person to be fluent in the language of agile; they need to be fluent in all common processes, because collectively, that is what reaps the greatest benefits. Understanding everything will not only boost performance, but greatly help one’s career.

ITIL certification is an asset to have and should be added to one’s repertoire. You can read the original post here: http://www.itsmprofessor.net/2015/09/with-agile-and-devops-why-itil.html
