3 Practical Supply Chain Challenges

Andrew Dunbar can see with a quick Google search how many “top 10” lists there are for supply chain challenges, but he most closely agrees with the challenges set forth by APICS’s Peter Bolstorff. He comes up with three main challenges upon which Dunbar elucidates. The first is rate of supply chain planning, about which Dunbar believes MRP is not going to cut it for making smart decisions anymore. The second is resource management in a global organization. What it comes down to here is making sure everyone has sufficient training to do their jobs to the best of their ability; it is the only way to get the best investment out of people and allow for the best planning. The third challenge is turning data into competitive insight, which entails performing real-time simulations to define the impact of planning decisions.
