The Big Three Have More Problems Than Themselves

McKinsey, the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), and Bain are the titans of the consulting industry, but they are not each other’s only competition. The playing field is actually leveling amid digital transformation, as Alison Huntington shares in a graph at Source Global Research. She uses data from McKinsey clients as an example: If given free rein to work with someone other than McKinsey for a range of different consulting services, they would choose IBM Global Business Services significantly more often than BCG or Bain. This is true especially with technology-related services, unsurprisingly, but it holds true by narrow or not narrow margins with several other services too. This is yet further evidence that consulting is in the midst of great upheaval. Take advantage of the new opportunities and changing mindsets.
