Stop Getting Stuck in the Medium-Term of Your Career

A post at Consultants Mind points out that many of us fixate too much on the “medium term” of our career paths, a period approximately between six months and three years in the future. Often, the medium term is just how long it takes to get through a project of some sort. But sometimes projects (or the equivalent thereof) get interrupted or canceled, and where does that leave your plans?

A better solution is to be looking at the long term, while taking short-term actions to get there. The only moments we have total control of are our actions right now, which is what makes the short term so valuable. And the long term dictates the general direction that the short-term actions should be taking. Whatever happens in-between the two is something you will deal with as it comes.
