Good post. Those 4 mistakes are usually driven by governance problems....the right cross-functional governance team usually solves those problems. A bigger issue is overall portfolio value: Is the portfolio going to produce the best possible return? How much better a return could it produce? One nice online tool that I found to estimate those things is at http://oakstonepartners.com/online-tools/portfolio-management-value-simulation.html

Because it is so nearly related to what was originally 'valley speak'. That has expanded to (the over-use of) awesome, amazing, utilize, incredible, etc. The words are inappropriately used, have lost their true mean, and, violate the 'rule' of using a small word when a small word will do. The current generation has taken a shine to using the most extreme word available, also resulting in loss of communication (i.e., every meal you consume is not awesome; every idea is not incredible, etc.) When did we stop using a pencil, and felt the need to utilize it, instead?
I appreciate your willingness to change this word for me. (It also improves your image!)

Dear Caroline -

I've made the change per your suggestion. I would be interested to know why this minor change, and the word resources, troubled you so much.

Many thanks -

Help us out just a bit, please. Regarding the following sentence from the into to this article...
In this excerpt hosted by Developer Dot Star, Robert L. Glass proposes that this mindset is simply wrong: the majority of software maintenance is actually spent on enhancements – making existing software faster, more robust, and more customized for the resources utilizing it.
Could we PLEASE make reference to these folks as "...for the resources USING it"?
The use of resources is also offensive, but we'll argue about that one another day.

Thanks.
