4 Strategies to Engage with Your Business

As CIOs continue to lead the IT world, the implementation of technology has become an increasingly important part of business. Being able to innovate your company and move to the future is an important part of ensuring success in the modern world. To help with this, ZDNet’s Mark Samuels gives four ways to help engage tech with business:

  • Use your experience to bring innovation to the table.
  • Transfer knowledge between functional teams and departments.
  • Bring the best of technology to commercial discussions.
  • Help the business understand risk versus return.

CIO Superstardom

One of the best ways to bring innovation to your company is to go out and experience it, going out into the community and seeing how companies and individuals are behaving. Being able to have a repertoire of unique and new business experiences can only be found outside the comfort of HQ. While it may be uncomfortable at first to go against the grain, the incentive to be experimental can be a magnet for innovation in your company.

As technology becomes more open and frequent to a variety of businesses, the need to be able to move these ideas between departments has become crucial to a company’s functionality. This transfer of information between experts in the company and the implementation of new processes has the potential to take a business to the next level. In addition to accelerating company success, CIOs must always be able to see that throwing money around doesn’t solve the problem, but being able to utilize technology in an innovative way is where the focus should be at.

Samuels also makes sure to emphasize the importance of not letting the technical aspects get in the way when discussing business with associates:

[Omid Shiraji]”I want to understand their drivers and know how open they’d be to change. Because you’re seen as the technology specialist, a business peer will often want to talk with you about technology, but that requires push back. If you do, you get great conversations about priorities, challenges and the art of the possible.”
