5 Ways to Motivate Yourself to Work Harder

Jessica Stillman writes for Inc. with five ways to push your nose even closer to the grindstone. These are pretty simple tips though. You might not even need to buy a grindstone.

For starters, get clear on the end goal of the work you receive, because work with clear value is more palatable to the senses. Embrace discomfort along the way, because self-improvement seldom arrives from doing the same things over and over again (except when it comes to my workout routine). Speaking of workouts, Stillman says to take care of yourself physically and mentally as well, especially when it comes to getting enough sleep. A person who cannot get a decent night’s sleep is never going to be fully motivated to work.

It often works out that motivation becomes a matter of habits embodied rather than always having a carrot to chase. Think about the habits that could help you reach the next level of career success if you could embody them. But that being said, the occasional bribe or punishment to make yourself do or not do things might help too.
