Can More Personality in Leadership Increase Employee Engagement?

Let’s answer that title question right away—Shira Miller, Executive Vice President, Communications for the National DCP, gives it a yes. She offers three reasons why leadership with personality can be a good thing. First of all, it makes leaders feel more approachable. Employees get inherently nervous around bosses, especially senior ones, so being able to tell a joke (especially at your own expense) can be a good thing. Second, in a case of leaders leading by example, employees will subsequently feel more comfortable being themselves at work. And lastly, it just creates a more supportive and upbeat culture. Getting work done and done well is always most important, but doing so with personality can be a way to add a little joy on top of it all.
