4 Quick Tips to Negotiate Better

Aaron Shepherd shares some basic negotiation tips for Lifehacker that might give you the jumpstart you need. The first is to seek win-win situations, as these are actually the situations where people tend to receive the most of what they want. In order to do this, look for commonalities between you, even frivolous ones to build rapport and develop mutual understanding. If someone tries to shut down a point of negotiation that you do not want to give up on, acknowledge the counter or objection head-on and work around it however you must to keep the negotiation point alive. But on the other hand, do not get so fixated on one point that you forget about the bigger picture. Perhaps there is a creative solution to give both parties what they want that has not been fully considered yet.
