7 Ways to Repair a Damaged Relationship with Your Boss

For obvious reasons, it is all sorts of bad to have a bad relationship with your boss. Ann Brown writes for The Network Journal with cures for a sick relationship. It must start with you acknowledging in a professional manner your part in the relationship souring. Then you can have a heart-to-heart conversation about the problem and how both of you would like to see things improve. Try to anticipate your boss’s interests and empathize with the person’s situation, since both people deserve to get something out of the relationship. To help you, instead of fixating on negatives about the boss that might have soured you to him or her in the first place, think about the positives instead and how your skills and personalities complement each other. Look for anything you might have in common and make that a foundation for more common ground. Just remember that most relationships do not magically get patched up in one instant; the healing will happen over time. You have the power to make this relationship better, for both of your sakes.
