Office Friendships: Where Do You Draw the Line?

How do you build earnest friendships with office buddies while maintaining professionalism? Chantel Guertin has the answer in an article where she looks at three common scenarios. The first is joining a gym with coworkers. This can be a great way to have fun during your “lunch” time, but restrict going to only a couple times a week. In this way, your workflow is not greatly interrupted, and it does not seem like you are building an isolated clique. A second scenario is going for drinks after work. It is good to get to know coworkers off the clock, but set an expectation that you will not be coming every day, and that sometimes you can only stick around for one drink. Lastly, there is socializing with coworkers on weekends, which signifies that you have become true friends.
