How to Confront an Employee That Doesn’t Respect Their Manager

An employee does not respect you. In this case, you can either challenge that person to a street fight, or you can listen to Miki Markovich’s article for Chron for a more peaceful solution. To start, be honest in all of your interactions with the person, and try to be positive as well. Reward positive behavior, and try to redirect negative behaviors by giving them different work that removes the source behind the negativity. If behavior does not improve in spite of your treating a person with respect, that is when you should verbally confront the person about fixing the negative attitude. If problems persist, contact HR.
