Hackathons for Better Programming

A hackathon is an event where programmers get together to collaborative intensively on software projects. Coder and consultant Thomas Ortega says they are a great learning opportunity too. Such events cause you to code with purpose, because you cannot afford to waste time fumbling around with half-baked code. They force you to hone in on getting a working product. They also happily foster strong camaraderie; friends who code together stay together. The fact that you can make some money for having the best finished product is not so bad either.
