5 Things You Can Do to be a Better Programmer in One Day

Who wants to spend a Sunday beefing up their coding skills? For those of you waving your hand enthusiastically, Seth Bicknell provides five ways to improve today.

Spend some time just getting to know your text editor; considering how much you must use it, it pays to learn the ins and outs. Learn UNIX/Linux command line basics and make or find a cheat sheet for future reference. Learn some regular expressions too, though it can be tricky, and Bicknell concedes it will likely take more than a day to master. While you are it, pick up a version control system like Subversion.
