5 Essential Methods for Becoming a Better Programmer

Tobias Günther writes for the Tower Blog with some useful guidance on how to write code more effectively. Unit testing tops the list. Consider writing a test before you actually code in order to give yourself additional guidance. Another good risk mitigation method is reviewing each other’s code, so that bugs are found and so that more than one person understands the code. Keep existing design patterns in mind as you go too, as most of your problems have already been faced and conquered by others before. For pure learning, pair programming is advantageous in that work gets done while a junior developer learns from a senior developer. Just remember to keep it simple.
