3 Industries Going Through Dramatic Supply Chain Transformations

According to Steve Banker in an article for Forbes, retail, health care, and shale oil are undergoing big changes in their supply chains. Retail is dealing with omni-channel commerce, where buy online, ship-to-store or buy online, pick-up-at-store are becoming pervasive options. Healthcare is being most obviously transformed by the Affordable Health Care Act, so that, for instance, hospitals will now take a major financial hit if they have to readmit a patient after the patient has already had a procedure done. This industry needs to find a way to lower cost structure while improving patient outcomes. And lastly, the shale oil & gas industry, spurred by innovation from independent owner operators, has increased its focus on developing new production techniques. This improves the value chain.
