Bringing on an intern is a big responsibility, because you are potentially providing them skills that could carry them for the rest of their careers. Lauren Bloch writes for The Muse about five ways to do right by your interns.

When selecting interns, pick the ones who demonstrate the most enthusiasm, coach-ability, and initiative. Plan for their arrival long in advance, guaranteeing they will always have meaningful work to be doing. Welcome the interns with a casual lunch or a full-blown orientation. Set up expectations, both of what you need done as the employer and what the interns want to learn. Then just remember to conduct thorough performance management, of the positives and negatives of what interns are doing. Maybe even allow them to showcase their finished work at the end.
