Four Steps to Making the Best Use of an Intern

Thomas Cox offers up four ways to keep interns feeling happy, productive, and sane. The first thing to do is to alternate them between challenging work and the tedious drudgery that no one else wants to do. Resist giving interns exclusively the latter. Second, ensure that any work you prescribe can be inspected easily for quality. You should be aiming to give them work that is important to the business but not tied to a deathly fast-approaching due date. Then meet frequently throughout the week to give interns updates on their progress, as well as perhaps have them document their processes and any problem fixes they might be uncovering.
