Do a search for yourself on the Internet, and have a friend do it too, since you will likely get different results. Take stock of your various profiles on the Internet, update them to be current, and remove anything that may be inappropriate. Make smart use of privacy settings. Maintain a strong LinkedIn profile and join professional organizations that are relevant to your career. If you have a common name, such as John Smith, but your middle is Adam, you can go by J.
