10 Tips for Maintaining a Professional Image Online

Begin by remembering that the best and worst stand out in search results, so aim for “best” rather than “worst.” Whatever someone sees of you as a first impression is likely going to stick. If someone posts something about you online that is not kosher, ask that person to remove it. Always protect your passwords and vital information. Control your branding through smart use of LinkedIn and Facebook business pages, and also use it to establish your expertise. Use an alias if you want to separate personal and private lives. Prepare to answer up for embarrassing Internet content during job interviews; some interviewers will apparently actually ask you to open your Facebook in the middle of an interview!
