The Simple Secret to Beating Clones and Copycats

Bobbie Johnson writes in an article for Businessweek that the solution to beating clones is to think globally from the outset. The majority of successful copycat businesses operate in foreign locations where the original business has not had ample opportunity to grow yet. Although it can be difficult to have sufficient oversight or develop enough funding, thinking globally from the beginning is the only way to ensure a stranglehold. But failing that option, and if the cost of fighting a clone becomes too great, just buying the competitor outright can be a good move too. Johnson concludes though that there really is no shame in copying, and it is a natural part of even the most successful businesses. You can read his full article here:
