Philippines’ IT Industry Top Earners

Kevin Kwang of ZDNet Asia sheds light on a 2012 online survey showcasing the different salary sets that IT skilled workers were receiving and it reflected project management professionals were the top earners, particularly in the Philippines. The poll included 945 respondents from all over China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, which made up 107 participants from various job levels and functions, ranging from supervisors and support to IT management and systems development.

Of the 107 Filipino survey participants, 44 of them had less than 5 years of working experience in the industry and 45 had between 5 and 10 years, while 18 had more than 10 years' worth of experience.

In terms of pay, those in project management within the country's manufacturing, services and others (non-IT) sector head the top earners list with an average annual salary of just over 1.3 million pesos, trumping their IT management counterparts in the same sector who earn slightly over a million pesos a year.

Showing its growth and strength in generating income, Web Development skills tops the average pay package in the Philippines yearly, followed by IT outsourcing, Database and then Application Development if one has a minimum of 5 years work experience in one chart in the article.

Another chart showed the need and rising demand for experienced IT Managers and Project Managers respectively, as these two job functions tops the survey in terms of annual average salary.

Even though non-IT project managers still have the upper hand over their IT management colleagues, it relatively looks positive for the industry and the steady growth of skilled professionals in this sector combined with the need for them in the labor force would eventually make compensation more competitive moving forward.
