8 Tips for Organizing Home Paperwork

An article at the “For Dummies” website gives some easy pointers on how to keep your papers in order at home. Start simple, so that your organizational system does not become a bigger hassle than it is worth. Use various colors to help the eye distinguish categorizations, but do not go too wild with subdividing papers, lest they become impractical. Invest in a sturdy cabinet that will hold up when it really gets packed full. Keep important papers in a safe spot separate from the rest. Otherwise, divide papers into “to do,” “to pay,” “to file,” and “to read” baskets, and file your papers weekly. Fine-tune as you go to find when one fat category should be divided further or a skimpy category can be integrated with something else.
