Feeling Negative over a Negative Performance Review

Alan Henry writes an article at Lifehacker about overcoming the gloom that comes with a negative review. First, consider whether your boss’s negativity is professional or personal; if it is personal, there is little you can do. But as long as it is professional, express your surprise at a bad review and show a clear intent to improve. Pull constructive feedback from anyone you can and make a list of your successes. Put yourself on a performance plan even if there is no formal plan in place. The goal is to do everything you can not just to stay employed but to excel in your job.
