Why the CIO Is Marketing’s Best Friend

In the quest for the latest technology, the CMO is going to need a partner. In the struggle to balance keeping the lights on and innovation, the CIO is going to need an ally. Vala Afshar thinks this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Marketing is data driven. Who better to supply that data then the CIO?

Innovation and integration are both words that Afshar suggests could easily replace the “I” for information in CIO. That innovation and integration can start with marketing. The CIO and CMO should always attend each other’s meetings. What works well separately, can be dynamic together if the two share the same vision. The CMO is looking to use social, mobile, and the cloud as part of their future strategies, and IT is looking to prove they are more than just help desk and infrastructure. Each might be capable of working on their own independently, but the strength in the collaboration could determine how well the entire organization does in the future.
