Embrace Digital and Unstick Your Supply Chain

Lora Cecere at Forbes writes that our supply chains are stuck in antiquity, and it is time to pull them out of the mud and into the digital age. She shares some eye-opening numbers:

While the cost of computing has moved from $222 to $.06 per million transistors and the storage costs have shifted from $569 to $.03 per gigabyte of storage, we are implementing supply chain technologies that were designed in the 1990s when oil was 1/3 the price it is today, and corporate social responsibility initiatives were not on the agenda.

Bridging the Gap

Cecere offers three solutions to updating the supply chain. First, focus on creating end-to-end processes from the customer’s customer to the supplier’s supplier. Second, use customer data derived from ecommerce in cross-functional teams to better understand your demographics. Lastly, challenge the team to define new business models based on use of data and new services.

See You on the Other Side

The silo mentality in organizations must go away so that supply chains can become the force for good that they should be to the business. Heed Cecere’s words to help make that happen.
