It isn’t over until it’s over, and if you want a final note of closure on your IT project, you need to run a post mort. Running a post mort might seem like a huge hassle and a bit of a downer when you’re ready pop the champagne and send everybody off on vacation, but take the time to do it now. Besides, it doesn’t have to be a drag.
It was a Lovely Service
PMHut.com reminds us that a post mort is necessary, but it can also double as a moment of celebration and a chance to bond with your team. Order lunch and offer congratulations. Give credit where credit is due. Then, get feedback from your teammates. Make sure everyone shares their thoughts. Even if some comments are repeated, it’s necessary that everyone’s voice is heard. Finally, make sure nobody’s holding back. Comments should be constructive, but now is the time to get everything out in the open. If someone feels something didn’t go well, their comment could be useful in preventing disaster on the next project.
