How to Evade Soul-Crushing Coworkers

Intentionally or otherwise, there are some colleagues who take your zest for life and just stomp on it until it looks like the Halloween jack-o’-lantern that you forgot to ever throw away. Michelle Goodman writes a quick article about how to get away from these people. First, set a “take 10” moment every day where no one may disturb you for ten minutes. Second, find a personal hideaway near but not actually at your desk where no one knows to bother you. Alternatively, try a literal physical barrier like a “Do not disturb” Post-it to keep people out. And when all else fails, block out hours or whole days for leave-me-alone time. If you are actually getting work done, there probably will not be a problem.
