Who was the first head coach to make four Super Bowl appearances?

Don Shula

Shula was the head coach of the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, the big game that Joe Namath guaranteed a win for his Jets. Three seasons later in Super Bowl VI, Shula had his Miami Dolphins up against the Dallas Cowboys and Tom Landry, but lost another one. The following season, after the Dolphins went a perfect 14-0 in the regular season, Super Bowl VII gave Shula his first Super Bowl ring against George Allen’s Washington Redskins. Shula and his Dolphins repeated in Super Bowl VIII against the Minnesota Vikings and head coach Bud Grant.
