8 Tech Etiquette Tips to Enforce in Your Office

Poor technology etiquette can directly affect a person’s career prospects according to Amy-Mae Elliot in an article for Mashable. She provides eight ways to keep on the machines’ good side. Start by never unplugging a device on charge. Take off the headphones when you leave your desk, or else you may come across anti-social or aloof. Similarly limit your laptop activity in meetings. Absolutely do not use someone else’s computer, and do not leave smudges all over their screens by touching them too much. Refill office supplies whenever you are the last person to use them them up. Keep your phone on silent, especially if you have a “funny” (stupid) ring tone. And lastly, do not go crazy with instant messaging. Although IMs may be quick and informal, they can still be a real drain on your coworkers’ valuable time.
