The Science of Productivity (Video also Included)

In a short, colorful video, Mitchell Moffit and Gregory Brown explain the scientific and psychological barriers that stop us from being as productive as we can be, as well as citing solutions to overcoming those barriers. They say that willpower is not enough to get work done, as studies suggest willpower is actually a measurable quantity that depletes with use and must literally be built back up to use again. To overcome this, you should just jump into a project headfirst, because humans feel an urge to finish a task once they have started it (this is called the Zeigarnik Effect). Multitasking has been shown to decrease overall productivity, so focus on one task at a time. Building a combination of habits and discipline is the best way to work around the inherently lazy instincts of your brain.
