The Nine Traits IT Leaders Need to Succeed

Being an IT leader puts you in a position like no other. Not only is the world of IT changing quickly, but being an IT leader requires a unique set of leadership skills that go beyond knowledge of technology. Toni Bowers highlights the nine traits that IT managers need to succeed, and why they are so important in today’s fast-paced world.

  1. Trusting employees
  2. <span style=”color: #000000;”>Strong and approachable communication
  3. Collaboration
  4. Self-Awareness
  5. Problem Solving
  6. Confidence in others
  7. Strategic Thinking
  8. Decisive decision making
  9. Ahead of industry trends and changes

Pursuing innovation makes it onto Bowers list, but it’s only one of nine. Equally important are the other characteristics, which include strong communication and interaction with employees. Yet, being a great IT leader doesn’t just mean interaction with employees, or tech knowledge, or innovation. It means all of these things and more. It’s only when a leader finds the balance that the whole team will outperform the competition.
