Make Friends at the Office Who Really Count

An article at Wired offers an extremely practical account of the types of people you really want to befriend at work. First, target the receptionist, because that person will have the dish on everything you need to know about big office events. Second, chat up the IT people and make it apparent that you appreciate their finesse; they will become more likely to address your help call tickets first. The mail person is another great one to befriend, particularly when you have something that needs shipped out the door pronto. Maintenance and security staff are also handy to know when you are looking to cut through the red tape and just get straight down to business. Like I said, it is a very practically-minded article.
