5 Tips for the Brand New Employee

No one wants to make enemies before they even take off their coat, so follow the advice of Bob Bessette on what to do when you are brand new. For starters, resist the urge to be too proactive in the first day by getting too aggressive with suggestions and recommendations. Offer your opinion only if it is a really good one, and otherwise stick with being a good listener. Definitely remember people’s names if you want to start work relationships on the right foot.  Learn the landscape by determining who reports to whom and avoid overstepping your bounds. Be polite and friendly with everyone, but do not talk their ear off either. If you really want to be liked though, always be offering to help. Nobody has ever complained that somebody was just too freaking useful in their hour of need.
