Whittle Down Your To-Do List. Finally

Minda Zetlin has a hunch that the stuff at the bottom of your to-do list is not getting done—probably because it is at the bottom of your list. She writes for Inc. about how to make a more practical list. First, you should remember a Stephen Covey quote, “Write this down. ‘The noise of urgency creates the illusion of importance.’ Put the word illusion in italics.” In other words, do not drive yourself crazy. Secondly, create a list of the three most important tasks of the day, especially if they are things that do not have a strict due date forcing you to get them done. Do not put off big tasks just because they are challenging. Lastly, shrink your overall comprehensive list by being realistic and acknowledging that some things are just not going to get done. She says it is most healthy to let go of your perfectionist tendencies. I say that if your best tip for conquering a to-do list is to give up, maybe you are doing it wrong.
